Welcome to the Cultivating Aspiring Leaders Fall Newsletter! We have made a lot of exciting changes recently, and we are thrilled to share them with you. With a brand new team in place, we have fresh ideas and energy helping to add new programs and enhance our existing ones.

Cultivating Aspiring Leaders Adds 7 New Team Members
Cultivating Aspiring Leaders formally welcomes 7 new team members!
Kim Pompey has joined the Board of Advisors; Valerie Owolo, Roxanne Ryan and Elizabeth Whittington have joined the Curriculum Committee; Ehi Oviasu has joined the Young Leaders Board; and Courtney Paul and Sarah Wolfe have joined our staff as Program Director and Director of Marketing, respectively.

Cultivating Aspiring Leaders presents the fourth "Get Involved With Issues that Affect Your Community" essay competition. The essay contest winner will receive a $1000 scholarship! First through fifth place winners will each receive a FREE dedicated college admissions essay editor!
Contestants must meet the following requirements to compete in the essay competition (below):
1) African-American or Latino student
2) High school senior
3) Total household income $50,000 or less
Essay Question:
Does social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc) pose a risk to or create opportunities for teenagers' futures?

Charles James Bate, M.D. Chairman's Scholarships Awarded to Two Meharry Medical Students
Congratulations to Jamesia Durden and Camille Strachan! Founder and President of Cultivating Aspiring Leaders, Charlotte A. Lewis, met and awarded $10,000 in scholarships to Jamesia Durden and Camille Strachan, both first year students enrolled in the Meharry School of Medicine.
Exciting news: Cultivating Aspiring Leaders has opened this scholarship to ALL medical schools!
